Stewart, a young man roaitlliiR In EuRene, was arrested by Chief of Pol ire FarriiiKton this morning for assault ami battery, alleged to have been commuted upon Professor Ford, the dancing master who conducts Saturday night dances In Davles' hall on East Ninth Btreet, He was taken before Police Judge Dorrls and a state charge lodged against him. He has agreed to appear again tomor row morning at 9 o'clock before tho same official, acting as justice of the peace ex-offlclo, In the abseuce ot Judge Bryson. It Is alleged that Stewart walked up to Ford on the street near the Hotel Gross Sunday afternoon and proceeded to give him a beating. It is said that the trouble was over the fact that Ford refused to admit Stew art to the dance Saturday night, while the latter was with his slater. This angered Stewart and he proceed ed to thrash Ford the first time he saw him on the atreet. Professor Ford, not knowing that the young lady was Stewart's Bister, emphatically refused to admit them when they appeared at the door of the dance hall, and the young man naturally took it as a rank Insult to his sister. l'mf. Kurd's Stati'inent. Prifessor Ford handed the fol lowing to The (J n Hid this morning as his statement of the affair: "Stewart has attended my social dances for about four months. The last two months he has made himself so obnoxious that I have had to tell him that he must not come to my place of business any more, but he forred his way In. until last Satur day I told htm he could not come In, and that I should not allow him to enter my premises. So he left and on Sunday at about 3 o'clock I was at the depot and returned to the Cross hotel and was standing on the porch when he called me down on the side walk and railed me a vile name.
