The death did not occur dur ing play, but as some of the Fu--niount children were going home. The well-enforced rules of the school absolutely prevent the children from getting on the tracks 'during play hours. 2. These children would have to crriBS at Thirteenth .and A streets If tho proposed change were made. They would be out of sight of the teachers and the large house at Thirteenth and A streetH would prevent their seeing the cars running south on A street, thus adding a new danger. It Is the opinion of all well-informed, that the proposed change would increase, not. diminish the danger. 3. Tho necessity of the children crossing the track at all can be done away with by simply building a side walk on the south side of Thirteenth street from Alder to University ave nue, and making It a rule of the school that the children go to and from school on that side of the street. 4. No reason can hs urged for changing the tracks from Alder to A street that does not apply with ten fold force to the corner of Willamette and Eleventh streets, where there are three schools and many times more school children us at Alder and Thir teenth si rets. This nensn tionnl siuLement was made today hy Hupresoiitatlve Hayes, of California, after a visit to tho White House. Continuing. Klllott bas been arrested at his ranch on the Ococho river on the . charge of burning Mid otherwise de stroying property belonging to ex Congressman J. M. Williamson. On March 28 the shearing plant and corrals, together with a house 'and othaj buildings, belonging to J N. WllirJmson, were burnedO.o the ground, his barn alone being saved. , A fire was started in the manger of the barn, but for some reason it went j out, though not without leaving some, very valuable evidence for the use of, the detectives who were put to work as Boon as the authorities were notl-; lieu of the burning. Because of the, location of this property in a rather 1 remote onrt nf i he Ho-e Heaven country, it. was some time before the fact was reported. A few davs prior to this a sheep camp belonging to Mr. Williamson was destroyed on a tributary of the Ococho, about fifteen miles east of ' Prlnevllle. Evidence Is in the hands of the sheriff that Indicates that a party or parties wire the same In both the Incendiary aits.
