Thai's a good Idea. Even the mast cantan kerous) husbands would rahii- be prayed for than to be hi: with a rul ing pin, stove-lifter, or some othei domestic implement. Industry has a far larger roll oi victims than war. Statistics show that a laborer is killed every minute, by accident. That may be the reason some men are so blamed skittish about engaging in anything that looks like work. After rubbing his bruises and care fully checking the returns. Governor Cummins, of Iowa, must b? convinced that whatever else age may have done to Senator Allison, it has not greatly injured his fighting capacity. Even the telephone company has joined the ranks of the "boosters." and is going to spend $20,000 in Im provements In Eugene this' summer. Couldn't do business here any longer and not catch the booster spirit. Some men may be able to see a valid reason for proving that Abra ham Lincoln was personally a tee totaler, or was not. even if we can't. One man offers $30 for proof that hi-wasn't. Well, Governor Johnson has nc more right to expect to be immune from fool-friends than any other man who gets in the national limelight. As a maker of corking good world wide advertising that battleship cruise Is surely a jim-dandy, even if It Is costing a lot of money. If the recording angel is required to keep track of all the political "short-and-ugly's," this must be his busy season. DOG POISONER STILL AT HIS NEFARIOUS WORK The dog poisoner is si ill at his nefarious work in the vicinity west of the old Presbyterian church. Five or six valuable animals have died during the past few days as a result of being poisoned and the own ers are now making a diligent search for a clue that would lead to the guilty person. Montle Leslie, a plumber who lives at the corner of West Eighth and Lincoln streets. Is among the latest to suffer the loss of a good dog. His dog was . a pretty Llewellyn setter and was valued highly. Every even ing as The Guard was delivered at the house the dog would go out and bring the paper in. Thursday evening as the carrier came along and called out, the dog had just gone through a hard spasm caused by tbo, poison It had eaten. Hearing the boy, the faithful animal made an effort to I reach the paper in the front yard to! bring it in as usual, but fell, after i oin only a few feet, and sorin af- t.-rward expired.
