In a recent issue of the "dependent" there app-ared a suggestive and helpful edito rial, entitled, "Take Care of Your Own Town." The cen tral Idea presented therein Is that In the public sense the town Is the home, and slioulJ be as s':redly considered ns the smaller homestead. This Indicates a spirit which makes town pride a personal attribute, the spirit which the Kugene people seem to have caught. They have caught It, too. In the earlier stag of town development, when It will count for most. Its working out will confer on, Kugene a distinctive reputa tion a reputation which the city will profit by maintain ing. The city of Blnghamton, N. Y., Is dubbed the "Parlor City of tho Empire State." It- earned the reputation a generation ago because muni cipal cleanliness and munici pal beauty were considered as cardinal virtues by Its Inhabi tants. These led to the devel opment of good taste In build ing. In laying out new strets and residence districts. It was a pleasure to visit that cltv. as It afforded contrast with almost every other New York city. The influence of it was soon manifest. It sug gested cleanliness and beauty In other cltier, which became the fact. Kugene hr.s encag ed In a similar work in Ore gon a splendid work, of which the people of Kugene niny feel Justly proud. Had we found the following In any other newspaper In the state we should not have ben so amazed as we were to met It In the editorial columns of ex-Governor Geer'a pa- ner. the Pendleton Tribune: "Of course, all ef these Democratic and so-called "independent" newspa- papers do not realize that with two or three Kenubllcan senatorial canni dates In the field upon which to spilt the Republican vote, the Democrats of tho Btate, voting solidly for their own candidate, would be able to pos slhly roll up a plurality which would be ca led a majority. Of course, the explanation of Its anuearance lies In the fact that Mr Oeer Is away from home these days making his campaign for con-s. But we have seen the same stuff In several papers already, and w navt heard It from a good many Repub licans who poso as well informed on politics and other things. Such talk only breeds ridicule and eon- tempt. Every man who pretends to any power of reasoning should. Know thnt after the primary election there can be only one Republican candl date and one Democratic candidate for senator or any other single of fice, and that all other candidates must go upon the ticket uuder some other -designation and that the voter ins ins pany iioiiuiiaiiuii 10 suiiiuri for senator the Fanio as for any oth er office. For heaven's sake, let up as Republicans display common sense at least In the discussion of such questions. F.IGKNK'S RKYIYAL8 (Albany Democrat.) About 250 conversions were ported at Kugene under Dr. Drongh er, a union service for the Presby torlnns and the Baptists. Two other revivals by the Methodists and Chris tians reported over four hundred con versions for the two. Six hundred and fifty Is certainly a big record and ought to mean something for Ku gene If the reported converts wen really warmed up to the core.
