When t'm rain pulled into tho station, prominent citizens of the railroad division point were there with the glad hand for the visitor3, who were escorted over to the opers houpp, where the exercises of tho evening were held. The Eugene Mil itary Band, which accompanied the excursionists, first played a selec tion on the street. The meeting was largely attend"'!, the little opera house being crowid to overflowing, and was enthusiastic all the way through. Junction peo ple have always borne a splendid rep utation as entertainers, and that rep utation certainly did not suffer last night. The visitors were made tn feel perfectly at home and were given the lltferty of the city. As a result of the mc'lng last night a CvtimerMul Club will be or ganized there, a call having been made for a mass me;ting some time next week to arrange for the prelim inary work looking toward organiza tion. The meeting was opened by H. I. Rami, president of the Junction City Development League, who announced that Hon. S. h. Moortead, editor of the Times, would make the initial n1 dreps. Mr. Moorhcad spoke wittily and briefly, extending felicitations lo the visitors. His speech was fre quently Interrupted by applause. Dr. L. L. Whitson, president of the Eugere Commercial Club, was then called it'Hin. Ho thanked the cl'Izens of Junction y?y heartily fir the mag nificent raception given the Kugene booster. He spoke earnestly of the possibilities of Lane county soil, and stated that we could raise as goad apples as they raise at Hood River ?nd MeriTord, If only the proper at tention l3 given our arehards. Mayor .1. D. He said what Lane county and Oregon need3 at present is railroads, and any railroad, no matter who Is be hind It, that should seek to enter this territory should be lent every en couragement by the citizens. j-h ii, fi..tng manager of the Commercial Club, was 'h"n called upon and In his own original manner i....ue u witty and instructive address that made everybody happy. He nlil of the good work being done by the club in advertising Eugene an.l Lane county in the East, and gave an idea as to the amount of li'erature h 'Ing s:nt out and ttie results already a: fiined. He urged the citizens of Junction to get together and ori;-n-ize a club to co-operate witli the Eu gene club In advertising the resources of the cntiro county. Prc.-iidi'tit Kami then asked all those who desired to join sut h a club to arise and sonic i-nty 01 ine en terprising men of that city qulckly ros? to their feet. It was antwiinced that a iueeMng would be held some time next we k to lake the fh'st steps towarl organizing. .1. M. There were only two dissenting votes at the election, and some one previously (during the evening said It was thought they were cast accidentally. C. S. Williams, who Is to become the next president of the Eugene Commercial Club, probably made the best address of the evening. He told that he taught school at Junction twenty years ago, and it did him gaol to see the familiar faces of the old timers who wore in the audlt nce, and it pleased him to see the enthusiasm manifested. He made an eloquent appeal for the University of Oregon appropria tion. Mr. Williams has only recently come Into prominence as a public speaker and he Is always called upon on an occasion like this. The meeting then adjourned, and nfler a few minutes of handshaking the visitors were Invited to the hotel, where lunch wt-.a served.
