OR TONIGHT, lontn. "This bank was talked to death," Bald the president of one of Kansas City's largest financial institutions as he closed its doors. And this is true in a great many Instances. The doors 50 of a great many hanks have been .05 closed because of rumors which have stable condition, when In reality they were as staunch as ever in their ex istence. It has been well said that next to a woman's reputation that of a bank suffers most from talk. As well say a man could take fifteen drinks of whisky, under the impres sion that he was drinking water all the time. The people of Eugene have an op portunity today to realize what it means to be without street cars, Many people attending the theatre and convention this evening will have long walks instead of a short, pleas ant street car ride. DYNAMO WHICH IT!tl.IIES POWER FOR THEIR OPERA. : TION BLEW OCT LAST NIGHT A.M NEW ONE WILL NOT Alt.! RIVE FROM PORTLAND IXT1L TONIGHT. ' ' The street cars stopped running last night between eight and nine o'clock and will continue to remain idle till some time tomorrow morn ing on account of the blowing out of the dynamo which furnishes power f or their operation. The accident ' occurred last night when the only ! ear then running was coming downi own from the depot and it stopped in front of the Underwood house, a! block south ot t'.ie depot, where it; has remained since. The company wired to Portland for a new dynamo, as the one kept j in reserve is out of commission on account of repairs being made to it, I and the new machine is expected to' arrive by express on tonight's local. ! It will at once be ins. ailed and placed in operation, but It Is probable that the "j nice" cannot be turned on till some time tomorrow forenoon. People of Eugene today wondered how they got along without the cars befors the line was built. They missed them greatly last night and the accident is proving a great in convenience just now on account of the Y. P. S. C. E. convention. The streets seem much quieter than when the cars are running and it brings back memories of our village days, when we had to walk if we wanted to go any place in the eastern, part of the city. Most men will agree with Senator Bacon- that it. Is not right for federal officials to actively p.irti'-!;m In politics. Yet, it lias always been done and probably will always be done, unless there is a great change in human nature. THURSTON TRESPASS CASE DISMISSED The trial which wSs to have been held at Thurston on the 19th did not materialize. The case was ngainst Edward Magness, who, while clearing awav for a resurvey, felled some small maple trees across land which William lliinelwriglit claimed nut ilia not have possession of, and for which he had the boy arrested on a charge of criminal trespass, which, however, in the opinion of the district attorney he had no right to do.
