William Brownlee. a well-konwn and beloved citizen of this city died at hs home In Kalrmount last night at 11 o'clock after a short Illness of ' la grippe, complicated with asthma i and bronchitis. He had been up and (around the house during the after noon and had eaten dinner with the family, but in the night he was taken ! suddenly 111 and passed away peace- fUMr. Brownlee was born at Glas Igow, Scotland, March 4, 1832. He 1 came to America at the age of 16 I years, settling in Canada. Later he 'came to the United States and was I married to -Miss Alice Patterson on ! December 14, 1856. She st 1 sur , vlves him. He leaves the following ! children: Mrs. Albert O. Clark, of I Rogers, Ark.; Thos. S. Brownlee, of ! St. Louis; Mrs. W. S. Mateer, of i.N'ampa, Idaho; Harry B. Brownlee, ' ot Minneapolis, Kan.; Mrs. Jeffrey !Sage, of Forest City, S. D.; Mrs. A. L. I Fields, of St. Louis, and Mrs . nsl ', ter F. Mateer, of Pokobojo, S. D. i Mr and Mrs. Brownlee came to Eu ' gene from Kansas four or five years ago. Mr. Brownlee has always led a quiet and unassuming life, but nev ertheless he was a public spirited citizen and always worked hard for the good of the community in which i he resided. He was a member of the ! Methodist, church and was for years jan Odd Fellow. I The funeral arrangements have not j vet been completed, but it is proba- ble that the burial will take place Thursday.
