The first was the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Whlteman, locat ed up the mountain about a half a mile above Taylor's mill, which was destroyed Sunday with all of Its con tents. Including a year's provisions and much canned fruit. Tho origin of the fire Is unknown and there was no Insurance. The following day, Monday, while Mu). Geo. Lang was preparing din ner her home, known as the Dave MoBby. Jr., house, situated near the Mosby creek bridge, caught fire, and while her husband was plowing near by, before he could get to the prem ises the fire bad made such rapid pro gress thut only a rocking chair, sew ing machine and a box containing their deed was saved. Among the valuubles lost was $30 In paper cur rency. The loss falls heavily on both families. Another Now Brick Building. Tho contract for tho new Stuart & Hinds two-story brick to be erected on the corner of Main and Second streets was awarded to H. J. Clark, who Is building the big brick adjoin ing the Oregon hotel. The new brick will be 53x'JO eet, wili have two modern store rooms on the ground floor, while the second floor wll) be fitted up with lodging rooms and suites of rooms for tho accommoda tion of the guests of the Hotel Thompson adjoining. The building will be of modern design and finish throughout, und will be a credit to our growing city.
