The v.v. mar ket, which, was more or less unset tled yesterday because of the uncer tainty of tho weather conditions, for the Immediate futuro, wa weak amtln today on tho return of warm weather. Yesterday some dealers held for 27 to 2 cents for Oregon ranch stock, hut It is understood that no Important Bales were made at those figures. Today's prices were 25 to 2(1 cents, and at these prices the market was not active. Kkks stocks generally are larRo, nnd the receipts today wers considerably In excess of tho demand. There was no chanKB of Importance In tho poultry market, which usually Is not active until later In the week. While receipts of hens and chickens wen) not laro, they were rather heavier than tho requirements for the dav. In tho ornnKO market Just now there Is a serloiiB shiirtiiKe In lar);o slr.es, "while the supply of the smal ler Kiadea Is sufficient for the pres ent. There is a chance, however, for a shortage in all grades In the near future, for tho movement of tho fruit from tho south Is almost at a stand still. Ono carload Is on the way to this market, but when more will come Is not known. Tho Interruption In Hhlpments Is duo to the hud weather that has prevailed in the orange dis tricts for some time past. Prices hero today were unchanged. . One car of lemons was received hero today. Tho market Is slow to steady, with no chnngo from tho quo tations in for lust week. The Pearson-Pago Company ro: celved one car of sweet K)tatoes, which hold firmly nt $3.25 per hun dred. Tlie market Is strong here and In the south. A car of Jersey Island celery Is due tomorrow, W. II. tllarku H Co. will this month miike I he last shipment for the sea son of apples to the Vladivostok mar ket. This consignment will bo about n corload, and It will probably leave within a week or ten days. Only tho best late-keeplug varieties will bo In cluded lit the slilpmeut. The lucal apple market Improves In a slow hut steady way, though the prices have undergone no change for A week or more. Tho latest addition to local stocks was a small shipment thut ciimo in from ('mis Hay. Onion (irowers Ht III llulllsti. "I can see nothing In tho condi tion of the southern onion market to warrant paying more than $2.50 for Oregon products at this time," said a local dealer today. "Hut many of tho growers still maintain their bull ish views. They demand $3. They rimy get that figure, hut It Is doubt ful, despite tho fact that the Ran Francisco market Is now falrty firm and slocks here limited. It must he remembered that Mnstern onions are now going to tho Southern markets, and It will hn but a short time before there are supplies from Japan, to say nothing of the early California offer iniis that will ho ready for the mar ket next mouth." HopN mill Prohibition. North Yakima, Feb. 4. The hop growers of this statu at the coming genet'iil election will have a power they have never had before, and as a result something In the nature of a e on tilnat Ion between tho hop produc ers and the liquor Interests In Wash ington Is not nn Impossibility and perhaps not Improbable. In four counties of the state Cloy will be aide to elect, representatives to the legislature who will go pledged to siippo't legislation demanded by them. In others they may lie able to combine with other forces and In this way secure friends In the nest legislature. It Is apparent thut the liquor Interests, especially the brew eries of the state, will really combine on any proposition looking to nun mil strength, because the brewer has al ways found the hopgrower an eneinv to prohibition. In Washington the liquor Interests have always been ac tive at election time, and an able bib. by Is always maintained at Olympls during the Uw. making seas u. Sent to the Western part of Montana last December a greyhound yester day appeared at Its old home in Oak land, much to the surprise or uoc Michael Ryan, Its former owner. Ryan conducts kennels at 1902 Un ion street, and last December sold two greyhounds to a person going to Montana. Yesterday a trnvel-slalned and foob-weury greyhound appeared at the kennels. Ryan went out to drive It away, but upon seeing h 1 in the dog gave an eager bark and leaped to welcome him. "Am I dreaming?" queried Ryan. The lick of the greyhound's tongue ngulnst his face assured him that he was very much awuke, and now Ry an is very much puzzled as to how "Mooey" traveled over 1 500 miles, guided entirely hy nnlninl instinct.
