The mailer of participating In the Rose Festival at Portland was fur ther discussed and correspondence on the subject was read and consid ered. It was decided to select the even ing of February 17 for the proposed vl.sit of the Cottage Grove Commer cial Club to Eugene. Attention was called to the fact that of the $13731 expended sine.; the promotion work started all but $?0 -7a was spent here, thereby really turning the money subscribed right back into the community that gives it. Plans for advertising In Kastern city newspapers and In Eastern trade papers were submitted, and the sum of $3U0 appropriated for that pur pose, final details lo be submitted at the next meeting of the board. This advertising will be done now, while the East is wrapped in snow and tee and before the tourist rate takes ef fect. An Invitation from the Salem boaid pt trade to send delegates to a love feast and commercial reunion on February 1 S was acted on favor ably and the manager Instructed to attend, while at the general meet ing of the club five more delegates will be selected. He was unable to appear on the stage last night and an understudy had to take bis place. In fact, he has not played since last Friday. The physician who Is attending Mr. Grahame announces that it may be several weeks before he will be able to be out again. The Orpheum will have an entire new program tonight. Moving pic tures, "Chase for a Kat" and The Easterner, a Tale of the West," show ing a race between an automobile and a horse. Illustrated songs, "Red Wing." Moving pictures, "An Idea," "Caught, but With Ills Mother-in-law," and "A Quiet Hotel." A fine entertainment for ladles and gentle men and children. Springfield News: In the Eugene Guard's big prize voting contest for chaperone Mrs. John Spores, of R. F. U. No. 1, Springfield, head3 the list with 35,824. To every one who has a vote in this contest, especially those from Springfield, should cast It foi Mrs. Spores for two reasons: First, because she Isc one of us: second, be cause it is the opinion of the News that she would make the best and most desirable chaperone among the various candidates. Mrs. Spores is well known and is one of Lane coun ty's most popular and highly respect ed ladles one whom any mother could feel perfectly at ease, knowing that she is capable of chaperoning her daughter in Los Angeles or any other city. P. Barnard, the liveryman. Is clearing his lot at the corner of West ElKhth and Charnelton streets, for a one-story frame business building, to be erected by him and completed by the first of April. The building will face on West Eighth street GO feet and extend back 64 feet. It will be occupied by Ludford & Haskell, painting contractors, whose lease on their present quarters expires on the first of April. The new building will cost between $1500 and $2000.
