In vestl gat Ion In reference to the lat ter leads me to believe that they con i.iii Mi disease by eating the car cass of a row that died of the same disease. Mv observations during the lead mo to believe even more strong- Iv than I have heretotore expict. it. r. tnliprcnlosls is widespread among the -attle and nogs oi ui cnuntv. As the recent investigations of the best scientists, notably the roy al commission of London. Knglaiid. have found that tuberculosis is trans missible from the animal to the hu anm being, the existence of tubercu losis lo ony considerable extent in our domestic animals Is a matter of serious concern. In counectiDn with the Rtate veterinarian 1 test?d one herd of 38 dairy cows, with the re sult that five were found afflicted with the disease and killed. As 1 above intimated, this disease is often introduced among hogs from eating the entrails of slaughtered animals. Ton will therefore see that the care and management of slaughter houses is very Important In dealing with the subject of tho suppression oi tuoercu- losls. While 1 do not Know mat ine law gives your body or myself power to do much to effectually check the spread of tills disease, justly regarded as the most ratal tnat aiticis en-nur animals or human beings, I cannot forbear to say, seeing that I must re port on the health or domestic ani mals within tho county, that much more Btrlngent provision ought to be niacin tr detect nnd dispose ot ani mals Infected wllh tuberculosis, and to renitlro that slaughter houses should bo bo conducted ns not to be a breeding place of disease, among an Imals. and. Indirectly, among human beings. Many communities have found a public abbatolr, under municipal Inspection, the most efficient means of checking the spread of disense among cattle. As soon as the owner finds out that ho cannot dispose of animals for human food that are af fected with disease, he Is conscious of a powerful Incentive for the eradi cation ot disease among his animals. Such Institutions have proved a great advantage to the butchers and have generally proved self-supporting fi nancially. I am very earnest in the hope that some measure will soon be adopted that wlil secure our do mestic animals in this county from the contagion of tuberculosis alid oth er harmful nnd contagious diseases. At present I nm forced to confess that I have no sufficient means at my dis posal to accomplish this- purpose, though I am doing all 1 can toward tho end In view. Very respect full v. J. CHIHSTIE.
