Ashland's ! only point In the second half came, i on a foul, nittdc the last moment In the game. Dick Charman played a steady game at guard, Farrlngton being sick. There Is not much to choose hetwoen these two clever men. Strong played guard for two minutes and made a basket. Roles, the Ashland guard, was very fast, nnd Howe did remark ably well. Jtobertson and Herndon, at forwards, did not play consistently. It seems that there is some doubt as to the choice, the selection laying between Coach Chase, who did so well with the second team, and Korbea, of West Point, who was let out last fall. Korbes was an all-American man for two years at Yale, artd know-B the Kastorn game to perfection.. Those who want to see Chase come out at tho head of the game here say that Korbes would be only an experiment, while Chase's ability Is well known. Among other offers is one from Coach Place, of Washington. in regard to the Yale man the Port land Journal says: "With such a man as Korbes work ing with the Oregonian3 It Is believed the greatest team In the history of tho collego can be evolved. Hereto fore tho coaches, with the exception of Dick Smith, the former graduate who captained' Columbia. University, havo bc-en from the Middle West. Sometimes they have been success ful, but not always, it being appar ent that they are not so well ac quainted ' with the highest develop ment of the game as the men from beyond tho Alleghenies. "It will take a pretty sum to se cure a man of the ability of Korbes, but football paid well last year and bids fair to grow In public favor next season. If the State University secures the Yale man or any coach from the big Esatern colleges then It deserves to be complimented on its progress. A touch of Yale foot-1 ball direct from the seat of learning' would be welcome here in the North-' west." i Sftscial Shirt Waist Mse?lh T. :ii u cnie for two weeks et from '4 to '4 Jess Hundreds ot New 1 903 Vjist,5 will n sale tOMWO w an OCtual worth All new J90S styles.
