She refused to tell why she suddenly left home, but It has been learned from the regis trar that the girl has not been at tending the University this year, as her family had supposed. Her un cle, Dr. W. L. Cheshire, explains that Miss Kelly, believing that Bhe had failed In her June examinations, was under the Impression that she would not be able to take up her col lege work until the opening of the Becond semester. Fearing to let her parents know that Bhe had not re-entered the Uni versity, the girl went to the campus each day, but the strain of trying to keep the secret from her mother has been too much, and she Is now on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Rath er than face her mother with the truth, because she had been reproved for failure in previous years in high school work, she decided to leave on the Impulse of the moment and to let Vhe future take care of Itself. The family is again united and happy, but the saddest part of the whole affair is the fact that tne young woman labored under a misap prehension regarding her standing In college, which In no way would have prevented her from taking up her studies when the University opened in September last. Mar tin, the Salem attorney Indicted on a charge of subornation of perjury, won a victory in the circuit court to day and may go entirely clear. Af ter the jury had been drawn and the introduction of evidence had begun Judge Burnett rejected Introduction of ,the. documents upon which the charge of perjury was based, and In this situation District Attorney Mc- Nary could not proceed, so moved to dismiss the indictment. Attorney M L. Pipes, for the defendant, insists that since a jury has been sworn .Martin has been placed in jeopardy and cannot be brought to trial again for the same oftense. The charge against Martin is that he procured L. J. Luper to swear that the allegations In the complaint of Luper's divorce suit were true, wnereas they were not true. Dis trict Attorney McNary offered the .complaint in evidence, and Pipes ob jected because it therein appeared that Luper merely swore that the canipiamt was true, as I verily he me point is a new one J.
