It Is said that It will op- erato nicely in wet weather and will sweep up the mud on the pavement Just as well as It does the dust and trash. The machine Is a four-wheel- ed concern with a big rotary broom about eight feet long and two feet In diameter, and will be operated by two horses, the fire team. As soon as It Is set up the team will he hitch- ed to It and the disagreeable mud, which Is caused by the accumulation of dirt and other material in the absence of any kind of systematic sweeping, will be gotten rid or. The sweeper was purchased from Chas. Hvaas & Company, of New York, and was shipped on September 29. The freight on the machine was iku.ii;. The sweeper was set up and given a trial on Willamette street late this afternoon. t BANQUET AT BAPTIST CHURCH LAST NIGHT A TIIOCSAXD llOI.I.AItS l:ISKI) which wn.ii iu:i,i' to Kit km ( iirncH oi' J)i:i!i' iso (ji'Ksts i'iti:si:.vr In the parlors of the First Baptist an elaborate dinner by the ladles of tile ciinrcn.
