Dixon, the propri etor of the Seattle Produce Company. Moreover, the sale of the fruit Is not pushed by the dealers, either, for ini. thn. thov do not make anything off of their banana sales, but only keep nem ior lub mtum dation of their customers. There fore If you want to eat something on which little money is muuo, iu purchase bananas. The dealers say that they make a little on some bunches, but that on others they lose just about as much. The reason lies in the fact that bau anas are bought by the pound and sold by the dozen. Thus whon a deal er asks three for a dime, you may know you are getting big bananaa, which usually give you more weight than the two for a nickel kind. The retailer also paya for the stem wh'ile he can only sell the fruit Itself. Eugene consumes a great many bananas, more than most towns of Its size. Probably as a conservative es timate tho town will eat thirty bunch es a week. Oranges are much more popular than bananas, for In the season some days as high as fifty boxes will be sold. , 1 , . , ' Another curious thing about ba niias Is that they do not grow as they hang in your gocerymau's store, but Inversely, that Is, the fruit Bticka into the air and does not hang down ward. , : '. , MARRIEB ' ' ' At the home of Mrs. Lnclnda Saw yer, 398 West Fifth street.
