On Wednesday evening the members of this class and the faculty enjoyed a boating party on the mill race. They rowed to the head of the race, where supper was spread, fol lowed by a short program consist ing of toasts, the class will, and the class phophecy. On Thursday evening the Junior class of the High school entertained the Senior clasB at the home of Mr. Chester Chrhtman. The decora tions were very elaborate and clever, the different roomB representing dif ferent counties. . The wide porch was converted Into a Japanese tea gar den, where the Misses Mary Barker and Kathleen Shumate served tea and wafers; the drawing room repre ssed Holland and presented a true Dutch scene, with Its old windmill, fir trees and the Dutch girl. Miss Camlllo Diddle, serving pretzels and root beer. The dining room, rep resenting Spain, was adorned with heavy draperies und red and yellow candles; hero the Misses Lucia Camp hell, lone Klllott, und Ensel Barker served cblll-concarnl. A trip to the North Pole was taken by climbing the stalrwny; here one of tho rooms was decorated entirely In white, repre senting snow. Miss Gladys Rowland served Ices and angej cake. Besides the Seniors, the guests of the Juniors were the fuculty and a few friends. Mrs. Oeorge B. IHirris and Mrs. Charles A. Hardy entertained delight fully on Tuesday afternoon with a garden party in honor of MIsb Carrie Friendly, whose approaching wedding was announced last weeK. The color schemo of the nfternnon was pink and wub uniquely carried out In tho tally cards, the flowers, roses and carnations, and the punch. Tho art exhibition given by the pupils of Miss Leone Kays at the high school on Thursday and Friday of this week was Indeed well worth see ing. Tho exhibit occupied the entire upper floor of the high school build ing, one room being devoted to na ture study, another to tho black and white sketches, tho hall to tho col ored work, ono room to tho lllu- mlnntlng work, and the nssemhly hall to "sun-bonnet babies. I he cnt alogues woro a very neat piece of work and were done by the pupils, the Illuminating by Misses Allen. Connlfred lluril, Clara Mersdorf, Khodu Green, and Waller Church Miss Knvs Is doing a splendid work In developing an Hrllstlc temperament in the Kugene schools. The Hugene High School Alumni Association tendered a very elabo rate banquet to the class of 1!07 on Friday evening after the graduating exercises at Davles' hall. The tables were beautifully decorated with lark spur and Scotch broom, while an abundance of green adorned the hnll. Plates were laid for one hundred and tywenty-fivo, and appropriate toasts were responded to during the evening. Mrs. J. W. Knys and Mrs. Julius Goldsmith gave two delightful after noons this week. That on Wednes day was given at the home of Mrs. Goldsmith, which was prettily deco rated for the occasion. About twenty-five guests were present nnd the afternoon wns passed pleasantly with needlo work. On Friday afternoon the hostesses received at the home of Mrs. Kays about thirty of their friends and the afternoon was passed with needlework and a magazine name contest In which Mrs. H. N. Mount wns the winner. Mrs. Knys and Mrs. Goldsmith were assisted In receiving hy Mrs. Frank Page, Miss Myrtle Kays and Miss Vernlta Hen derson. The young ladles of the Beta Epsl Ion sorority were at home to their ninny friends on Tuesday evening from eight to half-past ten. The hours passed pleasantly with music and conversation, and sherbet and lady-fingers were .served by Miss Irene Pennington aim Miss Helene Hoblnson. NEW COMPANY TAKES OVER THE ORtGON SECURITIES West Coast Mines Incorporated This Week and Will Handle Weil-Known Properties - Has Been Operating at Profit During Time of Receivership Cottage Grove, June 1. The West Coast Mines Company was incorpo rated under the laws of Oregon this week, the final papers having been filed on Tuesday last. The company takes over the property of the Oregon Securities Company of the Bohemia mining district. All the papers rela tive to the transfer of the mines und mills have been signed und they are now matters of record. Four hundred thousand shares of this stock is preferred, 7 per cent noii-cumulutivo siock and 1,100, 000 common. A cumulative stock Is ono where unpaid Interest accum ulates and becomes a debt against the company. A non-cumulative stock Is a class where Interest does not be come a liability if not paid when due. Wherefore If the West Coast Mines Company has profits at the close of the year to pay the interest on the preferred stock, the owner gets his money; but If there Is no profits or only part enough, the stockholder sustains the loss of interest and the mine Is left free from debt on Inter est nccount.
