The gentleman who is contemplating locating his plant at Springfield was In the cltv Wednesday making preliminary ar rangements. The locating of the foundry, like that of the sash and door fnctorv the bakery and laundry Is through the efforts of the Commercial Club and the liberality of our enterprls- : ing citizens. They have organized with a determined effort to make Springfield the leading manufactur ing city in Oregon, and their earnest I efforts are meeting with the desired results. The above mentioned in dustries are now past the prospective point and are a certainty, though it takes lime to gel the affairs arranged so as to start building operatious Mouvver, by the time the weather Is settled Springfield will be one of the busiest, liveliest and best towns to be found in the whole state of Ore gon, and all who do not believe that Springfield is forging to the front should come and Investigate. A young man by the namo of King who hails from the forks of the Santlam and who has gained some unenviable notoriety in Spring field heretofore, was arrested last Thursday and placed in durance vile for making himself obnoxious nud disturbing the tranquility of the city. Shortly after his incarceration smoke was seen to Issue from the "ealulin zo," accompanied by yells which the Oregon maidens to the Jamestown exposition would do well to emulate. The fire alarm was turned in, but further than a quick response by our efficient hose company, there was "nothing doing" as the fire was ex tinguished without the us1 of a hose. King was taken before Justice of the Peace .Smith Tuesday evening and sent on his way rejoicing with out even imposing a fine. This is indeed a poor example and does not help In the h ast to better the moral conditions of the community. New Luumh-y. Direct Information conies to us that a first-class laundry will be established in Springfield within the next thirty days. The project will be partly capitalized by one of our lending business men who has had some experience 111 the laundry busi ness.
