When all hope bad about been abandoned, word was received here today that the town of Oetro t had escuped de struction from the Immonr-e forest fire which is sweeping up the canyon of the N-! th Santiam. The lire Is raging in the dense, standing Umbo back in 'he mountains, and great loss is ensuing. The latfst reports are that the fire Is eating Its way through one of the HnoHt bel of timber la the Cascade Mountains. It extends for a mile and a half either side of the North Santiam river, and hai also tuined np the tlreitenbusb canyon.
