FRIDAY, JUNE 7 Randolph, the Fighter Referring to the strong language re cently e manatlng from eongress and the White House, a writer in the New York World says that John Randolph, of Roanoke, would be disgusted with "the poverty of epithet" displayed. Aooordiug to this wi iter the best the president could do was to de nounce something as "a dolibernte aud unqualified falsehood," and the best the sonator could do was to brand somebody as "a deliberate and malicious liar." The World writer says: "To John Randolph that would have been the innocent prattle of ba bes. Thoro was a man who knew bow to quarrel with presidents and congressmen and cabinet officers! An Octogenarian Family James Korr, of Wildwood, this county, was a most welcome caller this week. Mr. Kerr immigrated to Oregon about 23 years ago and has lived in this neighborhood since, engaging in mining aud farming. Ho Is now neariug the 70-year date, but hardly considers himself an old man siuce be has older brothers, one having reached aud passed bia 92nd birthday. His father, Mauasse Kerr, is 105 yoars old aud enjoying robust health. Manasse came to Oregou with his sou James 23 years ago and lived hero uuil about five years since when he returned to Pennsylvania. While here the elder Kerr did some mining but now ue allows the young man to do the underground work. Mrs Kerr, James' mother, died at the age of 70 years. The family is long lived, though James may not live to see his 100th birthduy tor his canpaigu in the Wilderness in 1801 was not condutive to longevity. Cottuge Grove Westerun Oregon. Loranejems Lorane, June 6. Frank Davis had to shoot oneof bis horses on account of a broken leg last week. L. E.Ward has gone to Eugene with the election returns. Rev. Grace, of Cottage Grove, gave a temperance lecture in the M. E. church that was well attended and greatly approoiated. The Ludlos' Aid Society served luuches aud meals on electiou day in the Odd Fellows banquet hall. They report a day of social pleasure with a ueat sum in their treasury as a result of tho effort.
