Will Practically Abolish
Athletics In School
The school board at a special meet
ing held Saturday Hftoruoou made a
ruling that will have the elfect of
practically doing away with abletics
In the high school. The following
resolution waB adopted :
"Resolved, by the board of direc
tors of School District No. 4, tbat
from this date uo athletic teams, eith
er football, basketball or any othor
teams connected with the public
schools of Eugene be allowed to leave
Eugene for the purpose of engaging
with teams of other ncboqls in any
athletic games."
The primary cause for this action 1b
the disregard on several occasions by
the members of the athletic teams or
orders and Instructions of the faculty.
Last mouth four members of the track
team went to Portland and took part
In the Columbia fleld meet In dlreot
disobedience to the faculty's orders.

team, and on other occasions there
have been acts of insubordination on
the part of the athletes.
The patience of the faculty . and
board of directors has been soroly
tried aud as a punishment and a lea
son to them the athletes have been
thus restricted.
Naturally much dissatisfaction
expressed bv members of the various
