UNIVERSITY SEWER.
As predicted lu last night's Guard,
an ordinance was passed authorizing
the construction of a 12-inch sewer ou
the south side of East Eleventh street
from the university to the High street
sewer and dolug away with the uni
versity sewer emptying into the mill
race, CURB ORDINANCE.
The curb ordinance was passed. A
uniform curbjfor all streets excepting
the principal business streets is pro
vided for. This will leave 'M feet of
street proper. j

Committee Will Prcbably Be Ap

for Appropriation
The Coiumereiul Club will meet to
night to discuss the matter of secur
ing au appropriation from congress for
the erection of a public building for
Eugene. It is probable that a com
mittee will be appointed to communi
cate with Oregon's representatives
in congress looking to such an appro
priation. Salem, uot much larger than Eu
i.ene, has hud its public building for
three or four years. Bills have beeuiii'
troduced for public buildings at Baker
City, Ore'gon City aud oilier pluces
iu the state, but Eugene has not yet
asked for one. We have a population
of over 61)00 aud if we are uot entitled
to a public building no city iu the
,-tiito outside of Portland is.
The Commercial Club is the proper
t.rgan'zation to take up this mutter
and the Guard predicts that tho e.)in;
miitoe, if one iB appointed, will bo
successful in its efforts to secure au
appropriation.
