TUESDAY - JUNE 10 SOME PERTINENT QUESTIONS. Register: The Salem Journal, wbiob before eleotioo veiled iteell hoarse OTer the extra vaganoe of tbe lait legislature, now wann a useless epeoial session ol tbe tame legisia tare held at an expense of 125,000 just to please our retiring governor T T Geer. The people won't eland for It. Let us seel Did not tbe Register keep the Republican state platform running In its oolomns daring the campaign? And did not one plank of that platform pledge the Repub lican party to enaot legislation that would out ofl the enormous fees and perquisites now enjoyed by state offioiale? And would not failure to legislate on the state official fee and salary abase before the officers eleot take, their respec tive positions allow them to draw present compensations for the next lour years the term for whloh tbey are elected? And would epeoial session of the legislature cost $25,000, as stated by tbe Register? ; "The people won't stand for it?" Does not the Register really mean that tbe politicians and offioials who hope to reap reward and ex oesslve compensation at tbe ex pense of every taxpayer do not "stand for it?" WON'T TELL ALL THE TRUTH, Oregonlan: We are to have a Democratic Governor be' cause of tbe malignity and mean' neBs ol dethroned politloal bossee Himon, (Jeer. Lowell and local whipper-snappers throughout the state, who oouldn't have things all their own way this year, and worked in oonoert for revenge. It Will not be forgotten in a day. Why oan't the Oregonlan tell the whole truth? Furnish ran miser ably behind even in those portion o( the state where "Simon, Qeei and Lowell" are known only by name, and where they oould not probably influence a single vote. The Oregonlan knows that the peo ple were afraid of Mr Furnish so much so that even the mass of Re publicans who loyally stood by the tioket are not complaining in the least as to the result. On the oontrary there is openly expressed satisfaction among men who voted for Mr Furnish under mental protest at least' that he will have no ohance to exploit state finances as he did in oounty and national positions. SOME POLITICAL COLOR BLINDNESS. , Register: Beoause Qeer's name went on the tioket ror senator by petitions from three or four ooun ties, It does .not follow that he is really the ohoioe ol the people lor that offloe. It is strange that the Register fails to remember that Governor Qeer's name was on the tioket as the Republioan candidate for sen ator and that he reoelved a majority of tbe Republioan vote. Forinstanoe Lane ounty gave Furnish and Knykeodall 2432 and 2408 voiee respectively, and Governor Geer for senator 2498. Does cot that look like Geer Is the "ohoioe ol the people?" And returns oome in muoh the same way from all over the state. "There are none so blind as those who will not see." FIXING THE RESPONSIBILITY. Portland Telegram. Chamberlain was elected by Marlon oounty. Queer, isn't it? No, it was Umatilla county that did it. It Is a very modest voloano that is not letting itself be heard from the days, SHE CAME ANT WAY. Miss De Kolletay It war simply dreadful! When I got ready to oome this evening I fonod I had absolutely nothing to wearl Oldb Kbustie (aftir a glance) So you uame anyway!
