Senator Koykendall la in sore straits about the statement of Sen ator Inmao of Portland that he voted against' the memorial to ex clude Asiatlo raoes from the United States. This morning's Register publishes "remember" affidavits from President of the Senate Ful ton and Chief Clerk Moorhead that: "On the 24th day of January the Memorial oame before the Sen ate for final aotlon thereon, and Senator Kuykendall moved to amend it by striking out all exoept that portion aaklng for re-enact-xnent ot the law excluding Chinese, tbe effect of the motion being to strikeout if adopted that portion asking lor the exclusion of all Asis.uo raoes. The motion to amend was lost and a vote was taken on the adoption of tbe resolu tion, and I distinctly remember that Senator Kuykendall voted to adopt tbe resolution." Senator Inman says "I remem ber distinctly that he voted against the Memorial." As no record is made of viva voce votes evldenoe on suoh a vote is a matter of per sonal reoolleoliun. You believe Whom you like. Uut there) is this about tbe matter tbnt swuus to bear out Senator luinau'u "ruiem ber distinolly." There is no liifler noe between ibu t-uur.tor in the statement that "Senator Kuyken dall moved to amend It by strik ing out all except that n ation asking for rennhct tv. mi ot ths law exoluding Cuiurat.." That is a matter of wooid. Senator Kuy kendall cannot get away from that. No affidavit will car his motion, the effeot of wbioh, if it bad pre vailed, would be to allow Japanese, Koreans and all Asiatio mongrels free entry to this country. Who that knows the marked resemblance between those Asiatio raoes will believe that the shrewd Chinaman oould be kept out if tbe DR. F. E. SELOVER. The Demoeratio candidate for coroner, Dr F K Selover, was born in Morrow county, Ohio, in 1872. Came to Portland, Oregon, in 1887. He entered the BiBhop Scott Mili tary Academy in tbat oity and pursned his ttudies within a year of graduation, when ill health oom pelled him to quit sohool. He finished the course of studies later under a private instructor. Dr Selover graduated from the University of Oregon Medical Col lege at Portland in 1897. Before graduation, however, he took a year's instruction in Chicago, in the nature of a post-graduate oourse. Going there with the in tention of finishing his medioal education at Rush Medical College he found tbe olinios oonnected with the college so overorowded as to lose muoh of the praotioal benefit they sought to Impart, so) he took private instruction and returned to Oregon to graduate as above noted, Was oonnooted with bt Vlnoent Hospital, Portland, from the Spring of 1897 till the Spring of 1898, ooming to Eugene in the latter year. During bis reBidenoe in Eugene Dr Selover has built up a good praotioe through oareful, faithful work. He stands well with , bia brothers of the medioal profession Baker City Demoorat: Baker City people who have just returned from Pendleton say tbat Furnish is likely to lose the oounty. The bitter opposition to him by life' long Republicans is making itself felt in no uncertain tones all over Umatilla county. Joint Canvass. Eugene, Or, April IS, 1002.
