Boney, the well known builder and contractor, Is clearing the ground on bis lot Just west of his two story brlok blook on West Eighth street for the erection of another brick to be 87x60 feet and one story high. A pert of the brioK for tbe erection of the building is already on the ground. When asked by a Goahd reporter this morning conoerning the new structure, Mr. Boney stated that It baa been leased to a well known com oanv for a term of years, but that be doe not like to give out the name of tbeoompany until tbe leasee are all signed up and everything arranged satisfactorily. Mr. Boney said that the work of putting up the building will oom menoe probably tomorrow. A NEW LODGING HOUSE. W. C. McGuire Will Open New Rooms in the Gray Block. Realizing the need of more lodging aocommodations in Eugene, Willis C McGuire, the well known restaurauteur, has leased tbe Mpper story of tbe Gray block on East Ninth street for a lodg ing house. For several weeks past Contractor Lombard lias been busy partitioning tbe entire second floor oft into rooms, and there are 15 in all besides tbe toilet, etc. The rooms, whloh are now nearly finished up, are all well lighted and will make pleasant sleeping places. At asserahly this morning Dr Htrorg addressed the facul'y and students briefly concerning the Uuiveraiiy and his relations with it. He gave a short account of his college daya at Yale, preparation and praotlee of law, and bow be became connected with educa tional work. Dr Strong said that there were many reasons why be decided to leave but none derogatory to the Uui- vereltyof Oregon. Among tbereasons he gave were tbat Kansas is where be be gan active life, that Kansas Is a strenuous state and that tbe people of Kaunas comprehend and support the idea of a modern state university. Concerning the University of Oregon, he said be always had and alwaya would have great afleotion fur the in stltution. Oregon haa not tbe idea of a state university, and she will not have a true university until sue gets this idea. NEW IDEA IN INTERTAININQ. The young ladles of tbe University are never In want for a new idea bow to entertain their patrons and at tbe same time succeed financially.
