fleuring mills and warehouses, weelen
mills, tanneries and sawmills In all
directions whose managers transact
their business here. Great farming and
lumbering valleys like the Mobawk
and McKenzle pour la their trade

Arrived at Eugene the party was
met by a oommlttee who wanted us to
taka a carriage for the University but
we preferred to walk ana see the town
as six years had passed since we were
there to stay any time Many good
business buildings, but more One resi
dences have gone up in that time.
Borne of tbe streets have teen nicely
graded but many of tbem are still in
the mad. There are some beautiful
) lawns but like Saku there are too
many big trees along tbe streets to
show oft the residences to artvautsge,
too many uukept yards, too many
board aud picket fences and unpaiuted
houses. But houees are all occupied
and In greater demaud than even la
Balem. Carpenters are much sought
after at Eugene and the town Is on
the edge of a building boom. The
prettleet building sites are on the ele
vated ground, up tbe slopes of the
buttve where the first BunBhlue strikes,

first fruits ripen. Even a hundred feet
above the level of the business parts

The Sigma Nu fraternity ball at the
armory hvt night was a delightful suc
cess. The students iu large numbers
