Death of Mrs Cb.esb.ire.
Mrs Raohel Cheshire died this morn
ing at 8 o'clock from old age at me
residence of her daughter, mis r.
Wbatum, at thecoma of Tenlh and
Oak streets, In this oity. While old
age was primarily tbe cause of tbe
death, the lady bad been oonflued to
her bed for the last five years from tne
efftota ol a fall.
Mrs Cheshire's maden na m- ws
Rachel Bmitb and she was b m ai
Rutledge, Tennessee, on tbe S'lh day
of May, 1S09, therefore being ai the
time of ber death 91 years, 8 months
and 13 davs old. Drobably the oldest
person in Lane county. She was mar
ried in 1S'28 in Tennessee to Edmond
Cheshire wbo died Aug 31, 1881. In
1874 Mrs Cheshire came to Oregon and
Lane county to reside with bei
ohlldren. wbo bad come West in an
early day.
Mrs Cheshire was tbe mother of ten
children, only five of whom aarvlve
ber. They are: Mrs E Wbattam, Mrs
Mary Fields, W P Cheshire, all of Lane
oounty, Mrs Amanda Ray, living in
Kansas, aud Edmonu Cheshire, in
Missouri. She bad lived a Christian
ail her life, being a member of tbe
Baptist oburcb.
Tbe funeral will be beld at tbe
Wbattam residence Friday morning at
9 a m, to be conducted by Rev J C Rich
ardson, and tbe remains will be laid to
rest In Oak Hill cemetery, a few miles
west of Eugene.
