The annual convention nf the Ore gon. Idaho Young Hen's Christian As sociation will be held here tomorrow and Saturday. There will be aboui 76 delegates from tbe various educational Institutions of the two slates, besides representatives from tbe associations at Portland, Salem, Pendleton and Ore gon City. Tbe meetings of Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon will be beld In Vlllard Ball, and the even ing sessions In the Methodist Eplooopal church. Sunday morning at 1:45 o'clock there will be a session of one bour at the Congregational oburcb, and at S p m mass meetings at the Metbodist Episcopal and Baptist churches. The Fall of Brooklyn Bridge. Tbe Brooklyn bridge is being weak ened by electrolysis. Its four great cables are live wires through which wildcat currents are constantly flow ing. Tbese are escaping to the ground through the anchorages, which they are eating away at an estimated rate of nine tons a year. Tbe conclusion Is that tbe electrolytic efTeot must be overcome at once or tbe bridge may some day fall into tbe river, or it may have to be closed. For about fifteen years the settlers along the Middle Sluslaw bave been trying to bave a wagon road built to oonneot with the . Eugene-FIorenof road at the mouth of Wlldoat creek. When oompleted It will make con tinuous route from Mapleton up the entire length of tbe Sluslaw river, wltb outlets on tbe railroad at Drain, Cot tage Grove aud Eugene. There will be considerable roek blasting, also two bridges to build at Wildcat and Wolf oreek, respectively, The people along the route bave sub scribed liberally la work, and tbe county court will assist with tools and powder, and iron for the bridges. As most ot the work to be done Is from four to ten miles from tbe homes of a majority of tbe settler sub scribers tbey will be under the neces sity of camping at tbe places of heaviest work. While the Eugene-Florenoe wagon road was mainly built by tbe county, the people along tbe Middle Sluslaw have had very little help and are mainly doing the work themselves, But they will be very thankful for a Utile help, especially to furnish tbe camp wltb provisions, aud for tbls end their agent will call on the pspie of Eugene for some assistance. Any further explanation will be given by tbe agent when be calls, or by the members of the oounty oourt on application.
