Died.
St Joseph White died of Brigbt's
disease at the residence of Mrs Brown
lee, oorner Eleventh and Olive streets,
Eugene, Oregon, Sunday night, Sep
tember SO, WOO, at 10 o'clock, aged 36
years, 2 months and 14 days. He
leaves a wife, the daughter of Mr
Carey Thompson, who he married
July 29, 1000, and a father In tbe
State of Missouri, besides a number of
other relatives.
Mr White came to tbe Coast about
10 years ago, and to tbe Blue River
mining dlstrlot about five years ago,
where be purobased the Sunset claim,
which he still owned at the time of
bis death. This Is thought to be the
rlohest mining claim in Western Ore
gon, Mr White was sick only a few weeks
being attacked by the fatal disease
only since his marriage. He was a
member of Spencer Butte Lodge, No
8,1 OOF, of this city.
Tbe funeral will occur tomorrow
afternoon at i o'olock from the resi
dence of Mrs Brownies un tbe oorner
ofllth and Olive streets, under tbe
ausaloes of Seocer Butte Lodge, No 9,

Tbe Produce Price Current, of New
York, of September 16, after saying
the New York state yield turned out
about tbe same as last year, says:
"Growers do not seem In a hurry to
market their hops, and tbe few sales
reported of late have been mainly at
about 15 cents. Cable advloes from
London give ub no reason to change
previous estimates of tbe crop, which
Is likely to be 35 to 40 per cent short of
last year. Our local market has been
id a sort of waiting condition, oper
ators waiting to see tbe ouloome of
tbe English crop. A moderate quan
tity of Block Is going to brewers to
meet current requirements, and there
is some export business from here and
on direct consignments from tbe west.
Supplies In first bands are lighter
than usual for this season of the year,
and this makes a firm holding of most
grades. The business that transpires
is within the range of our quotations."

Tbe citizens' committee who have
oharge of tbe work, owing to the lact
that the county Is not In shape finan
cially to assist tbls fall, have thought
best to suspend further operations
until spring when tbe work will be
resumed and the road ootupleted to the
mines. Tbe committee bave inoit
favorable assurances of assistance from
the Eastern corporations who own the
large timber traota through which tbe
road p asset; also from tbe oounty and
from the mine owners in tbe Blue
River district, who are clamoring for
this outletjto tbe valley, and without a
doubt whatever the road will be com'
pleted in the coming spring.

Runaway Accident.
A runaway ocourrid tbia afternoon
at 1 o'clock which resulted seriously
for one man, and a fortunate esoape fur
another, hi Hardmao, of Fall Creek
while uuder the Influence of liquor,
was driving near tbe corner of Seventh
and High streets. His team started to
run away and at the crosswalk collided
with Oeo Munro, who was on a bl.
cycle. The wheel was badly mashed,
but Mr Munro fortunately escaped
injury.
The team ran down Seventh street
to the mill race. Parties golug down
there found Mr Hardmau lying In the
water, with his bead submerged
ana unconscious. Dr Belover attend
ed tbe Injured man and moved
him to tbe residence of Mrs M
J Babb. On examination it was found
that Ha'dnian sustained a bad scalp
wound, had three ribs fraotured, beside
luterual injuries. He is resting easily
anu will be able to return home in
few days.
