The wide publlolty glveu tbe Blue River mining district during tbe pres ent season shows that It Is now going through tbe process of befog "discov ered," although having been p oi pected for many years. 'I he Malem rltatesman of yesterday has the following: "The Blue River mining district is exoltlng a good deal of attention In mining clroles and man) are watching the development of prospects lo that section with the keenest Interest, cn teralutlng the highest hopes thai some thing better than has ever yet been realised from mines In tbe Cascade range will come from this station. M ners have been at work inthlsdhv trlct for at least fifteen years, hut no very rich strikes havo been made, yet there have always been very promising ores brought out by every prospector. The long delay lu developing these mines baa been oauned by a failure of prospectors to interest capital in con structing roads and doing develop ment work. This district begins in the southeastern part of Linn county, near the , head of the Callapo 'la; and extends southward Into Lane county, where tbe best saying mines have so far been discovered. "Recently a Halem man returned from this part of the ata'e and he con firms the newspaper reports of rich atrlkeaand great activity amoug tbe miners, and the very substantial char acter of the develoi ment work as well as tbe work on the 'oads leading Into the Blue River di trlct. In the morning at au early bour tbey leave up tbe Military road for tbe neighborhood of Lowell. Tbese men, witb other wealtby associates, bare nnder con sideration tbe purchasing of the Mili tary road lands lying weat of tbe Cas cade mountains, amounting to a large number of acres. For several months tbey have bad a party of expert timber cruisers from tbe East estimating tbe amount of saw timber standing on tbe.'e lands, and Messrs Swart and Baker now go to consult said parties aa to tbe result of tbeir work up to this time. If tbe landa are transferred, It will mean a great deal to Eugene and Lane county and tbe Umber will probably be logged and milled In the Immedi ate future.
