There is genuine sorrow in tbe McKinley camp in that there is no chance this presidential election to alarm capital with the silver buga boo. Nevertheless some of the press of that politioal faith, the Oregonian among the number, con tinues the attempt to scare the voter by asserting that the eleotion oi Bryan will put tbe country on a silver basis. The Oregonian, though, discreetly fails to inform its gold standard readers that this MoKinley administration has coin ed many millions of silver during Its term. , . The issue of imperialism; tbe holding of ten millions of Asiatics on territory that lies almost agairiHi continental Asia eight thousand miles from Paoifio BboreB, is soughl to be avoided. We exolude the Chinaman, President MoKinley has 65,000 soldie rs in the Philip pines trying to make subjects or citizens of the ten million Filipinos and mixed bloods that iuhabit the archipelago, The people of the Paoifio ooast know tbe Chinaman They know that the law exoludlng him from our oountry is for our best interests, for the interest of every laborer. "Will the genius of our free InBtitntions allow us to hold tbe Filipino as a subjoot, yot exolude him from our shores and a part in our politioal institutions? There Is danger for our people in the answer to this question, should MoKinley be eleoted. We believe the election of Bryan would soKe the question to the best interests of our people.' He is opposed to hold ing Asiatio territory by force of arms, or oiliorwise. CHANGES OF FOUR YEARS. The editor of the Rosebnrg Re view keeps a file of the Oregonian. He says he has gleaned the follow ing information from its columns: "Four years ago, men like Sena tor Stewart, of Nevada, and ex Senator Pfefler, of Kansas, A M Stevenson, of Colorado, and Sena tor Mantle, of Montana, were long haired, wild-eyed cranks of the most dangerous tvpe because they were supporters of Bryan. Now thoy are gentlemen, scholars, and patriots of the moat approved pat ternbecause tliey are BUpjiirting McKinley and imperialism. "Four years ago Ii iurke Cochrto, O II P Belmont, aarl Carl Schuri belonged to the highest type of American oitiiens because they ploer) oountry above party and supported McKinley. Now thev nre a set nf weak, shifting, shallor politicians became they have de clared for Bryan and the republic. Four jftart hko, ex-(iovi rm r Biut- well, ex-tiovernor liradi'onJ, Web sier Davis, (ii-n A'kins-r, kbk rej)rer""D'a'iv- ot nil thai ai pure and good iu iioluic itei.'nuxe -hey were advocating the election of Mc Kinley. Now the same gentlemen are liebt-weight blatherskite1! and old ban beens not worthy of con sideration ut the bandd ot good, sensible, thinking American citi zens because they are for Bryan and popular government." MUCH ADO OVER LITTLE. The Oregonian bas found a for mer Democrat of Bone prominence who is supporting MoKinley, and it puts him to tbe front even though he is of tbe small fry. Ex-Minister Denby of China ia tbe man. Tbe Oregonian Bays Denby "bas alwayB been a Democrat, and was given the Chinese mission by President Cleveland. It was biB knowledge of Oriental affairs that induced President McKinley to put him, Democrat though lie was, on the Philippine commisBion." Then naively adds: "Doubtless it is bis aotual knowledge of the facts in tbe case also that forbids him to sup port Bryan." 'Doubtless" it was through being put on the Philippine commission that- Denby supports McKinley. He was a Cleveland appointee, and there are not a few ot them, together with the ex-president, throwing what Btrenulh tuey com maud to tbe Kouublioan caue.e More than this tbe oharge bus been publicly made, and not denied, that Denby was in favor of Mo Kinley four years ago and would bave voted fur him had he been in the country. The Oregonian makes much ado ovor very little. It is a case of "drnall pntatoee," if any thing. The Pen in the Hand is worth two in the Mind. If you bave "a good mind to write to Dr. Pierce" take pen in hand and begin. Then you'll avoid the experience of Mrs. M. P. Davis, of Honnkcr, Russell Co., Va. She writes : "For seven years I wna confined to bed must of the time. I tint! ulceration of internal organs and female weakne.-is. X had four doctors and they aaid I could not be cured After the doctors said I could not le cured 1 wrote to Doctor Pierce for advice I followed the advice be gnve I feel better than I ever did. My friends say I do not look like the same woman. I am sorry I did not take Dr. Kent's Medicine when I first began to hat poor health. I could have saved what I paid to humbugs." No one ever regretted writing to Dr. Pierce for advice. Many have regretted not writing sooner. Sick women are invited to con sult Dr. Pierce by letter, free, and so obtain the opinion and advice of a specialist in diseases peculiar to women. All correspondence pri vate. Address Dr. R. V.
