Latest reporti from the hop yards of England lndloate that the orop there will be far from a full one. The best reports come from Mid Kent, where prospects are said to be Improving. Vermin and mould have decreased and well cultivated and sprayed though neglected yards will not turn out much. Reports from the principal districts of Sussex .how that where the hops are well cultivated, and where washing has been repealed over and over again the Improvement In the vine is con siderable, but even In the best grounds there Is still a lot of vermin. Un washed aud badly cultivated plantu tions are going from bad to woreeund a black blight seems imminent. The prolonged drought - aud great heat are proving too much for such pieces. Reports from other hop-growing jettons of England indicate cuudillonB much like those In Sussex, though in many places even the best yards will not give a full orop and neglected yards will be a failure. On the w! ole the English crop will probably be conaid' erably short. Reports from California are that the orop will be light but of superior quality, and the same may be said of the Oregou crop. A reliable authority in Eugene says: "The crop In this onunty will be lighter than usual, but the quality will be fine. Home dayB ago a party, consisting P N Lulrd and family, Miss Belle and Harry Keeuey, of Jasper, Mr aud Mrs T P Keei.ey, of Tacoma, Jonn Hand saker, of Eugene, B F Keeuey, of Goshen, and others left for an outing up the Middle Fork. In a letier written by one of the party to frieuds. here it Is learned that they are, as might be expected, having a Hue time. "We gather around the camp fire," says the writer, "alter supper, sing songB, swap lies, tell 0Kes, write, re count tiie experiences of the day, eta." Ihey claim that they are catching trout, "many of which would weigh 100 pounds." It Is no secret, however, how "Pom" was treed all night by bear that, in his imagination, must have weighed at least several tons; how "Johnny" H, was chased Into camp by an infuriated buck, which be tried In vain to kill; liow "lien", when fishing, declared he saw the Jwhale that Jonah swallowed, and was pretty much excited until assured that it was only a harmless water dog. Your correspondent is waiting to learn with great anxiety what other wonderful adventures will befall these innoceulB .who are evidently too far from friends and home.
