There was a strange woman in Flor
ence Tuesday whose actions aroused
some curiosity. 8be came from the
south and left by the beach toward
Ueoeta after eating dinner and paying
for it at the Morris Hotel. She would
not tell anything as to where she came
from or where she was going, except
that she sal S she was traveling up the
baacb and intended to build afire and
camp out.
Milton NlcoUe had bis foot crushed

Mapleton last Friday. He was work
ing on a steep side hill trying to start

between that log and another and
crushed it badly. He was brought to
Florence and made as comfortable as
possible while a messenger was sent to

Boat Capsized on Siuslaw Bar

Robai Is, whioh arrived here last even
ing, nporta the drowning of two men
on rHuslaw bar yesterday morning.
Captain Hansen, of the schooner Liz
zie Prinn, which recently arrived at
that place to load lumber (or Ban
Franolsoo, had taken ou bis cargo and
was ready for sea, but apparently no'
satisfied with the depth of water re
ported on the bar by the lug Kobarta,
went out to lake soundings himself in
a small boat, with two of his sailors.
While op the bar a breaker capsized
their boat and the two sailors were
drowned. Captain Hansen succeeded
In clinging to the upturned boat and
drilled ashore. The names of the lost
men were not known.

ago, Hnnwdle, a Piute Indian of this
county, committed suicide by eating
wild parsnips. Last week, his clillil, a
14-year-old girl, on account of bud
health, ended her life In the same way.
Her mother, upon finding the child
dead, procured some pursnlps, and,
eating them, also ended her life. It ia
uuusual for Indians to commit, suicided

This morning at 7 o'clock as the
freight train Btopped at tbe Eugene
yaids to leave some goods consigned to
local partite, the crew opened a oar
which held the goods, and found a
youug hobo actively at work helping
bimseif.
Tbe boy had opened several through
cases of Bhoes aud had them scat ered
over the floor of the car looking for
sizes that he oould wear or use. He
bad also wrapped up several pairs
ready to take with him when leaving
the train.
The train orew telephoned down
town for an officer to turn the boy
over to, but oould not wait until he
arrived, eo took the thiet on to Junc
tion, expeotlng to hand him over to

entered the car at some point south
