Cyclones and Rescues Will Not Parade in Procession on the Fourth of July. (Communicated.) Th Cyclone and Kesoue Hose Com panies held a joint meeting last night to make arrangement for participating In the Fourth of July celebratlen. It wu proposed to hav two raoe, wet and dry testa, between the two companies, without any prizes, If the celebration oommlttee would pay the reasonable expense, estimated at $35. The member of the committee who was present stated that the other four member of the oommlttee were decid edly opposed to any appropriation for the purpose, and that if any were made It would not exceed J26. As tbe celebration Is always an ex pensive affair for tbe firemen they did not think they wanted to dig up tbe necessary funds, and so decided not to race. Tbe boy thought that their services to the people of Eugene en titled them to more consideration at th hand of tbe committee, and a motion not to participate In the parade went through with a rush. After a vote of thank to tbe committeeman present the meeting adjourned. It Is to be regretted that some races could not be arranged a they always form an attractive feature ot tbe day's program. . Life Gradually Lengthening. Reoent statistics prove that the aver age health and length of life of hnman beings have grown stronger and longer with the years. In the fifteenth century, there wa not to be found a man or woman over sixty years of age. It Is clearly demonstrated that the change for the better ban been brought about by modern Ideas and method. One of the agent which ha been most instrumental in preserving life is Bos tetter's Btomaoh Bitters. Thous ands have died from atamaoh and digestive disorders, who might have survived bad tbey resorted to the Bitters. It Is the greatest of known tonics for Btomaoh and digestive or gans.
