what. Tbe vines are very backward,
but may developl very rapidly under,
favorable climatic Influence. With
tbe most favorable conditions, however
the crop is bound to be considerably
short.
Report from England say the vines
are backward, and look sickly and will
need specially favorable conditions to
bring tbe crop up to what It was last
year.
Oregon and Washington tbu far
have been favored. In most localities
the vines are strong and healthy, and
give promise of a dense crop, It all
depends, however, on tbe weather.

Too much warm rain would dampen
the vines and breed bop vermin, which
will greatly reduce tbe output of oholce

Generally speaking, the world's bop

tion of last year's crop remains unsold

Brownsville on June 16 after an Illness
of several weeks. She was a pioneer
oltlzen, a Christian woman who leaves
a splendid record of good deeds and

by many. The family resided here

On motlan of Councilman Roney the
petition and the proposition was ac
cepted and motion for opening said
street carried, and tbe Recorder was
authorized to draw a warrant for tbe
amount named when the oily attorney
approves th deed.
Owing to tbe surveyor not having
completed profiles and grades, provld
log for the improvement of tbe street
leading to the Eugene Lumber Compa
ny's new mill site, in time for City
Attorney Stevens to draw up ordinance,
no action was taken In tbe matter.
Tbere being no further business
council adjourned to meet In special
session Thursday evening, June 1, for
the further consideration of street 1m
provement.
