The Ladies of the G A B, of Oregon met at Frank's Hail in annual con vention at 10 o'clock a m, Mrs E Wands, of Balem, senior vice presineut, In the chair, the department presi- dent, Mrs A Llvlngton, being pro- vented from attending on account of lckuess In ber family. The convention was largely attended by ladles and comrades from abroad. Bixteen comrades were made members of the order aud novas ladies were Initiated Into the order. Committee on credentials was ap- appointed. The council of administration did their work in an excellent manner. According to the quarterly re.oort they had done noble work among tbe destitute wards of the G A R a.id made many sad hearts gay. The order is in a very prosperous condition both as to finances and membership. They are not auxiliary to the Grand Army, but they are surely workers, for the desMiute of the old soldiers, who lost health and limns In defense of the Union. The election of officers for the ensuing year will take place tomorrow or next day. It Is dei-tlned to be one of the strongest orders kindred to the old soldier. Yesterday morning at Kosnwoll, Idaho, Brt Lroy Harnett, eldest child of Post master Barnett and wife, of Monroe, died from lung fever combined with la grippe. He was born at Halsey, In Linn county, November 7, 1877, and came here with his pareutB in 1890. The young man was a favorite with his companions at tbe Oregon Agri cultural college, at Corvallis, and among bis neighbors here. He went to Idaho a few days ago for tbe benefit of bis health. He enlisted for service in tbe Philippines, but on Account of lung trouble was unable to pass the examination. The interment will prob ably te at Roseweil, Idaho.
