delivered an eloquent memorial
address. We take a bit describing
tbe transformation of the West
from a wilderness to a land of
happy homes and contented people:
"I stood one September ic-onday
47 years ago on a prairie height
not mHiiy miles from where we are
met today, and looked fur out on

A Trick Tbat Won.
A few weeks ago a pretty little Pa
risian actress was appearing at a the'
ater lu Geneva. On the last night of
the play a tall, well dressed man sent
in hU card and asked permission to

him. He entertained ber at supper
and asked permission to see her oil at
