POWERrui, SINCERE AND EFFECTIVE The opening of Ihe oamoalgn for Ihe Citizens ticket In Ijiue oounly began today with Ihe speech of J H (Cyclone) Davis, the brilliant eplgrammatlual orator of the Loue Star state. The olrcuit court room of the court house was used, and before the hour orspeaklug It was taxed to Its utmost capaolty, quite a large uumlier of ladles being present. At 1:80 o'clock Mr Davis was Introduced by Judge J J Walton aud proceeded at onoe to the discussion of the leading political quoftlous. j.y me ngut oi the past can we see to advance into Ihe future," said Mr Davis. "Government such as ours Is organized to give and perpetuate to Its people certain Inalienable rights, we, noerty anu the pursuit of happi ness, and the movement of govern mental functions should tend toward that objeot." iue imperialistic policy Is to grade government to the existing conditions oi men as they are ground down, and compel a suumlsslon to the same. The true Jeflersonlan democratic policy is to defend, proleot and build up the people by a strict adherence to the principles of the government founded by our forefathers as a place where life, liberty aud the pursuit of happi ness is our birthright. The question of trust or monopoly ownership of lauds was handled strong ly oy Ihe speaker. A monopoly of laiiu never was contemplated as a Di vine right, and whether It be a duke, lord, earl, sydlcate, mouopoly or trust, to concentrate the ownership oi laud In the bauds of a few is against tho masses and for tho olnsscs. To place the enormous powor of wealth lu the hands of a few people, creates a power In this ropubllo more potent than that exeited by many kings and potentates. "Nine syndicates In these United States can purchase nine states in the Union, Including Alabama, tomorrow and pay the cash for them." The military, lu case ot war. or the federal government has alone the right to build, equip and ereot highways, yet this Is disregarded. The ownership now vested in private bands Is direotly opposed to the constitutional Intention. In commerce It Is the lame. Mon ey la the power. Money buys the machinery in the manufactories, and mouey owns and controls the men who run the machines whose effort fills the ooflers of the few. - Franklin said, "I am constrained to believe that those who have the power to oontrol money, will have the power to oontrol the destiny of the people." This statement was made at the time Plckney moved to vest In the president and bis cabinet the power to regulate money. The amendment as proposed by Dr. Franklin was, that Congress (the people, not the few) shall have the power to coin money, regulate the value thereof and of foreign coins. He who has the power to pull tbe pursestrlngs of the people bos tbe power to pull the heartstrings of the people. If thirteen small states could "go It alone," establish a government, build and fooler it, and regulate Its money acceptably In the commercial world, It is the shame of degeneraoy now lo lay that the United shall ask of, Europe permission to coin or) not ooln money, So rapid bos been our growth and vast our advancement that we should beaole to dlotate our financial and commercial policy by the rights of the constitution which we are supposed to consider, "I am a plain American oitlzen," "lid Mr Davis, "who believes that the Declaration of Independence is Just as applicable now as when written, and that the Constitution should lie as sacredly regarded now as ever before." The per capita of circulation in the United States (honest money aa well as dishonest) will not nay the Interest on our Indebtedness. The total of all our commodities will not pay our indebt edness. It only serves to Adjust our Interest and allow the creditor nations to dictate our prices and still keen us subservient. The value regulations place on us, they together with restric tions on coining silver metal equal with gold, keep us still tho debtor nation. Flat money Is coined. It is true, but it Is not for the people It Is for the banks. This method will never secure for the people life, liberty and bapploess, which our constitution assures Its citizens. But it Is tbe law, and the banks secure the Issue of the govern ment money-grinding machines, while the people are compelled to barter their commodities for II. Mr. Davis bandied every question be presented moat ably and forolbly Throughout the entire speech Mr. Davis was greeted with applau -prolonged and sincere, aa his telllnv points were scored rapidly and sc-u lately. He speaks at t'ottaife Or r tonight. w ..Your Opportunity...
