latter, yielding to the request of the
committee, have agreed to use outs of

large auditorium of the Firet Christian
ohuroh, and it should attract a full

The object of the union Is to promote
the cause of education In Eugene, and
it Is believod that free and full discus
slon, with both aides of each question
fairly set forth, will do much to Inform
our people of the condition of our
schools, and the result In action that
will bring the "greatest good to the
greatest number."
All those who have copies of the
"School Laws" should bring them
along in order to follow Intelligently
the address of Dr. Kuykendall.
The special muslo provided for the
occasion will be an Inviting part of the
program, aa these gentlemen aio well
known muslolans, and will appear in
quartet for the first time In public.
The meeting will he called to order
promptly at 7:80 by the president or
the union, Judge E, O Potter.

Died. In Springfield, Oregon, Jan
uary 13, 1900, of appoplexy, Mrs. Z. T.
Klnlxly, aged 62 years. She was sick
only a few hours. The funeral occurred
tbls afternoon In Springfield and was
largely attended.
Will Hereafter Make Regular
Weekly Trips.

The steamer Eugene arrived up this
morning from Salem, where it waa on
the bar for two weeks. Business pros
pects for the boat from way points are
very favorable, aud regular weekly
trips from Portland to this city will be
made during the remainder of the
season. The steamer la cioiuk txcei-
lent service, ia a good carrier and ad
juster of freight tarifls. The business
men of Eugene are giving the boa1
some patronage, but It is oniy uy a
concerted action on their part that the
mucb-to-be-deslred low fi eight tarill'
oan be maintained.
Robert O. Brady, the Eugene aitent
of the company, Is prepared at all
times to give information regarding
rates, sailing dates and other matters
connected with the service.
