NEW Balslng Hops for cost, or Less A Discouraging Situation. The Watervllle, New York, Times, published lu tbe main hop Motion of New York, has this to say about tbe market, and situation of growers In that state: "The prloes at which '99 bops have beeu sold during tbe past week do not offer much encouragement to growers to continue much longer In business. For several years now tbe majority of them have received prloes that have hardly covered tbe expense of raising, aud some years not even tbat. Each year tbey have been hoping and trust ing tbat better prices would prevail, and have continued to raise the muob disappointing crop. Their lot baa Indeed been a hard one and there seems to be no Drosceot of relief. The question of plowing np tbe yards Is one that should Invite and receive their serious consideration." , Roseburg-Bobemla Wagon Road. Tbe proposition to build a wagon road Into tbe Bohemia mining district from the Douglas county aide is not meeting with muob enoouragement. Tbe Koseburg Review of May 12 baa this: "Tbe committee to raise funds for a survey of a route to Bohemia from Roseburg have been Interviewing our business men. The success so far haa not been overly gratifying, as some seemingly do not realize the great im portance of th a movement. They are not discouraged, however, and propose to push tbe matter along." Prune Crop. From suoh Information as la now available, it seems quite certain tbat Oregon's crop of prunes this year will exceed 6,000,000 pounds, uouglah oounty alone will market 2,600,000 pounds. A Strike Epidemic Strikes are serious things, and In view ot tbe number tbat have occurred it Is well to remember tbat until the cause be removed, dissatisfaction will depredate work and prove a menace to Bociety. But It is not only tbs com merolal life which has its strikes. Tbe whole country is groaning under tbe strike of the stomach, and many people make the mistake of trying to suppress the symptoms Instead of removing tbe cause. I coughed terribly, lost flesh, could not sleep, and became so dreadfully weak that I had to take to bed. In the following eighteen months I gradually reached the last stages of consumption. No less than seyen physicians treated me and all gave me up saying I was in curable. I was absolutely helpless. The whole fam ily wore themselves out caring for me. One day mother and sister came to my bedside, and said I had but a day or two more to live. Tears rolled down their cheelsai, sobbed the news. The doctors had declared I was in the last stage, nci human being could save me. I was willing to die, but before going toiitci grave, I wanted to go out and see my dearly beloved town of Sidney onom They told me such a thing was impossible that 1 would surely die beforelp back. But I insisted, and to gratify my dying wish, a carriage was tmjj with a bed of pillows, and to this I was carried and slowly driven aromdCir House Square. I got home more dead than alive.
