The increase by decades for the suc ceeding hundred years varied Irom 22 per cent in 1870 Unit decade iuclod ing the great civil war to 30 per cent in 1800-1810. The census of 1850 and 1800 showed an iucrease of 35 per cent. In 1800 it dropped to 24 per cent These figures are given without the ad ditional fracliou of 1 per cent. The average is about 32 per cent of h ere se for each decade. If this is maintained during the present decade, the popula tion of the country iu 1900 will be about 82,001,000. But If it should he only 24 per cent, as in 18S0-1S9O, it will be somewhat under 78,000,000. As the last decade included several years of extreme business depression, when im migration fell oil and the percentages of marriages and births decreased, the figures for 1900 m.iy not reach even this number; but probably between 70 and 77 millions would be a safe esti mate. Albany Democrat July 7: This morning a band of horses belonging to Andrew Willis of Crook couuty, stampeded and got out of the pasture of Peter Riley, wher they were being kept for the Albany market, and ran in front of the overland which came along at that time. Two of the horses were killed outright; one crippled was shot by the section boss and another one by Poundtnaster Davidson.
