His com pany has recently obtained a charter from Lane couuty, authorizing it to improve the Mohawk river for a dis tance of 23 miles, so as to render it navigable to log drives to i I a junction with the McKeuzie, where a large sawmill is to be elected. "The coutract for blastiugoutstumps aud drifts and building dams on the Mohawk lias just bees let, to a coin pany ot loggers, Mr Kelly says, and the work will begin Immediately. A line body of fir afoug the Mohawk aud its tributaries will be opened by the promoters of this new enterprise, and steady work will lie given to from 00 to 120 hands in mill and logging camps. The two mills already operated by Booth & Kelly, iu Lane county, cut iu the aggregate Borne 80,000 feetof lumber per day. This la flu mid from the mills, five miles east, to Saginaw, where it is loaded on cars of the South- Jem Pacific and shipped to California, Arizona, JNew Mexico and other locali ties further east. Fairview mountain Is conceded to contain the freest milling ore of the district, aud the many 'properties be- ing developed ou aud around same are destined to gain considerable promt nenee. If the railroad from Cottage Grove to fSoheliun, which so far is a wlud aud paper road ever materializes to a full Hedged road, headed by an Irou horse, it will be hard to compute the future I osslbihties of the Bohemia district, or the benellls to be derived therefrom to Lane county. There are a great many properties throughout the camp, which with shipping facilities, even with limited capital, could be put ou a paying basis and inado to develop themselves. There are thousands of tons of base oie that Is rich enough to ship direct to a smelter, at a large profit. There are many properties that aro part base aud part free. milling, where, by having shipping facilities for their conceu trates, with the free gold caught by amalgamation, would make them paying investments. It can be said of Bohemia, which is bard to say of any other camp, that among the hundreds of shafts and tunnels run ou ledges iu all parts of the camp, not ono has been abauduned and pronounced valueless. All show pay ore that could be worked at a profit by having the proper milling and milling facilities, which many failed to provide for when locating their claims.
