The Presi dent in his addreo said all obliga tions of the government should be paid in the "best" money. That is right. Now what is the "best" money? We oontend that any money issued by the government bearing the government stamp is "best" money, paper, silver and gold. The president and his secretary of treasury ask that gold only shall be paid to the nation's creditors. Silver that is used for payment of debts and obligations of the work . ing olasses and masses, that buys tbeir flour, meat and clothing, is not good enough for the bond hold ers and speculators who thrive off the necessities oi the country. The money loaners and bond holders furnished Mark Hanna the monoy with whioh to elect a presi dent, and the benefloiary of the election that was won by a banding together, of capitalistic Interests, intends to reimburse his flnanoial supporters so Inr as in bis power 11m. But an unfriendly senate stands between McKinley and furtherdeg redatioa of our silver and paper moneys. That senate says be shall not o.rry out the program outlined by the Indianapolis banker's con vsntion for retirement of our paper ourrenoy by further bond issues. President MoKinley is a willing soul and does not heaitale in par forming his part of the contract, but he runs up against an obstrep- orous senate. A window light in bis house was broken and he took it to glasier to have a new one put in. Upon paying tor it he found the price of the glass was one dollar, The year before the same sish had been filled tor seventy-five cents. Upon Mr Peery inquiring as to the inoieaeed costs he was informed that the Dingley bill was the cause of it. Upon further inquiry be learned that the profit to the dealer was lees when sold for a dollar than when sold at seventy five cents. It says: "Indications now point strongly to a union state ticket to be named at Portland on Maroh 23. Union on the part of the state ticket ought to be followed bv union on county tickets.
