Salom Journal: There were four DomocratB, fourteen PopulieU and three Union Bimotuliuls elected to the lower house. They .will de mand recognition of any man who ia speaker, both on the committees and on the floor of the house when they come to present reform uieai urea. If they do not get such rec ognition their bills will be pigeon holed, or unfavorably reported, or they will be ruled against in all parliamentary matters. Thcyarea strong minority, and a partisan peakor enforcing the czarlike ml; ingiofa Tom Iiecd would leave them in no position to represent their party or servo their consti tuents. This minority are worthy of consideration. The time is past when a man can be Snoered down In a parlimcntary body simply becauso he is a demo crat, a populist or a silverite. Dem ocrats and populists were ruthless ly turned down in the senate orga nization. The samo course in tho bouse would loave noarly one-half the people of Oregon without rep resentation in the organization. The minority will novor consent to such an organization. They should not. "A bill for an act to provide for the prompt organization of the leg islative assembly of tho state of Oregon. "Section 1. That horenftor when on tho day fixed for the mooting of tho two houses of tho legislature of tho State of Oregon, any memborof either bouse shall willfully absent himself from the hall of tho son a to or house, to which he may bavo been olectod, and shall will fully rofuse to answer to his namo and participato in the organization of suoh sonato or bouse, he shall bo deemed guilty of a misdemeanor; and on indictment and conviction in any court of competent juris diction in this state ho shall be subject to A fine of not less than 50, nor more than $5,000, at tho dcsorolion of tho court; and shall further be deemed guilty of con tempt of the lawful authority of the house to which be has beon elected ; and should any such person so elooted willfully presist in suoh re fusul to attend and participato in organization ol the house to which ho has boon elected, for the period of two days or more, he shall forfeit bis right to a seat in such house and shall not thereafter bo permitted to take tho oath ol of oll'icc as such member." , I, L liav, ailministrator of t,e ; ,.,. r i m ... i . House Buknkd. Tho residence of Mel Taylor, three miles north of f'o burg, wan destroyed by fire about 9 o'clock- last night. The family were invited out to spend.the (veiling with a neighbor and no one was at home when the lire broke out. It was sup posed to have caught from the fire place. The lire was drat seen by John Vaughan, a neighbor, but the house was almost consumed then. It was a bandsonie two-stnry structure built at a cost of net less than 2000, and was the first limine south of the Williamson resilience which was destroyed by fire lost full. It was probably insured, though nothing can be learned of the lusuraiico lu this city. The light from the burning building was plainly vis ible from here. Dismishkii. Deputy District Attor ney I. 1 Harris went to Junction Lily today to prosecute a case wherein F L Edwards was oliarged with stealing a horao from ous W Johnson. It seems that the two men had mude some sort of a horse trade and it was out ef this that the trouble grew. Mrs Dolly C Jaeoby who was married December 24th, and whoso husband, Lester I) Jacoby, commenced suit against her January first fur divorce, has filed a cross complaint against liliu, denying the accusations made against her, and asks for a divorce, for alimony, that her name be changed to her maiden name, and for planum to pay to the clerk for her use aud defense, (75.
