Of the situation in XowYotk'shop ceuters the following is taken fiom the Otsego Farmer of the 27(li ult: Cooperstown "A conservative dealer estimates llmt 5,XO tales of hop passed out uf grower bauds las: week, of which 2,000 bales were bought here by dealers in this village. Of course this figure was uot duplicated this week but the general tone uf the market has been strong and Hrui with uu advanc ing tendency. Heretofore this season Cooptistown has been the best hop market iu Central New York, but 11 reports from Schoharie county are true the palm has been won by our neigh boring county. A local dealer is authority for the statement lli.it one lot there was sold for 17 ceute unit the other lots for 16. A report has been circulated that 18 cents has been paid in Schoharie. In this market we learn of nothing higher than 15 cents, although there is a reported offer of 18. Good brewing hops bring 10, 11 and occasionally 12 cents; ship era run up to 15. Our reports show purchases amounting to a little less than 1,000 bales hore. Of this numbor IS were bought at 7; 23 at SJ; 5 at 9; 56 at 91; 126atl2;51at 12); 32 at 13; 15 at 13; 111 at 13; and the balance at 10, 10), 10), 11, 11) and 11." Another, Cart. Eugene now has another hose cmrt ready for service, making four carts In the city. The racing cart, which wa recently pur chased by the city, has been fitted out with 500 feet of hose, formerly used on Oregou cart, and other neccssaiy equipments and was placed in readi ness for use today by Street Com missioner Doyle. There are now two hose carts at the central station, be sides the chemical engine nud hook and ladder outfit, and one cart each at Lawrence street and Eleventh sta tions. A Rumor. The people of this vicinity were saddened to learn ot the sudden death of Frank Whipple at 11 a m, at hi home today. He had Just flulahed shaving himself, sitting lu a chair when he died. The doctor said he died from apoplexy. He had beeu around town this morning, and said he felt very well. Mr Whipple was lu business here for a numtier of years; also served two terms as postmaster. At the time of his death he was in the general mor ohandlse Arm of Chrlsnian & Co. He had mauy friends, aud was au hon orable man. He was a member of the. Masonic lodge, and will be burled Tuesday under the auspice of that order. He bos been Jn poor health for a number of years, being 50 years of age. He left a widow aud three child ren.
