Maccauees' Meeting. The first
open meeting of the Knights of Mac
eabee In this city, which was held at
the opera house Saturday evening,
was a very suceecsful one. This Is a
bard time of year to get a good audi
ence of people for an indoor gathering,
but the Maccabees are rustlers and had
a splendid turnout Saturday evening.
They had a short but very interesting
program, consisting of music by the
band, quartettes by the Maccabees,
etc, and an address on "Plain Fuels
Regarding Fratomallsm," by Deputy
Supreme Commander J L Mitchell, of
Portland. Mr Mitchell is a plain and
entertaining speaker and his address
was full of good thought and excel
lent advice, which can only be ap
preciated In its entirety by those who
have enjoyed for a time the advan
tages aud privileges of fraternallsm.
The meeting was prolific of good
results to the local tent, about twenty
applications for membership in it
having been received.

running from $0 to $15,000. A mile
of ten foot ledge bos been traced that

the advantage of plenty of water and
ate ripe for development. It is said
the syndicate will give them a
thorough development, and there can
be no doubt of the result.

Prineville Review: "Mr Andrew

with quite a serious accident last
Tuesday morning. He was on horse
back when the horse became unman
ageable and ran into a barb wire fence
and seriously lacerating his left arm
and left leg.
"HC Cleek brought him to this
city Tuesday morning and Drs Bel
knap and Gesner were called and
dressed the wound. The wouud in
the left leg was uut very bad but the
one in the arm is quite serious. The
arm about 3 inches below the elbow
was cut by the wire. It cut through
the llesb aud about one-half inch In
tlie rudliiB of the fore arm, severing all
the muscles aud tendons on the outer
and inner part of tho arm. Owing to
tlie hot weather it makes a serious case
of it. This comes hard on Mr Lytle as
he is a poor man aud has n family to
support."

Old Kates to bo Restored.
Tho Southern Pacific and the O R A
N olllcials have "got together," and
have decided to end the passenger war
between Portland and Sun Francisco.
The old rates, $12 foi cabin and $8 for
steerage, on the steamer line, and (19
first class and $10 second-class on the
railway will be restored on July 21.
The reduced rates for several months
have been $5 first class and $2.50 on
the steamer, and $10 and $5, sleeping
car accomodations Included, on the
Southern Pacific special, which ran on
steamer days. Thousands of people
have taken advantage of these rates,
as they found It was cheaper to travel
than to stay at home. There will
probably be a big rush of travel during
the remaining days of low rates. There
will be two more steamers and two
more special trains each way betweeu
Portland and Ban Francisco before
July 21.
