Kntered aa econd claii matter at the Eugene, O'exou, poetottlee. MONDAY, - JULY 13. WILLIAM . UliYAM. The demoTntio nominee for president ia little known in polit ical circles, having entered public life only ubout b!x years ago, when he was made tho nominee fur con gress by the democrats of the first Nebraska district. lie is by odds the youngest man ever nominated for the office of president, being eleven years younger than General Grant was at the time he received the nomination of the republican party in 1808, and represents the young blood of the country. Bryan woe born in Salem, Mar ion county, III., March 9, lf(C0, en tered public school until 15 years of age, spending bis vacation on the farm; in the fall of 1875, cn tered Whipple academy, at Jack sonville, 111., in 1877, completed a classical course and wus graduated with tho highest honors in 1881 attonded Union college of law, at Chicago for two years, during which time he was connected with the office of ox Honator Lyman Trum bull. Ilegaif tho practice of his profession at Jacksonville; removed to Lincoln, Nebraska, October 1st, 1887, and became a momber of the firm of Talbot & Bryan. Ho never hold an oloctivo offlco prior to bis olootion to congress. Was olected to tho 52ii and re-oleotod to the 53d oongross as a democrat, rocoiving 13,784 votes against 13,041 votes for Allon W. Field, republican; 80 votes for K W Maxwoll, populist, and 2409 votes for Jeromo Shamp, indopondont, Bryan excoeds by sixteen months tho ago limitation placed by the constitution upon presidential can didates, it requiring the man must bo 35 years of age. After his deoli nation to run again for congress from Nebraska, Byran purchased an in teres t in tho Omnlia World Herald, and has I'nco beon considered Us editor on financial and political questions His refusal to becomo a candid ate for congress, the third terra was owing to his bitter disagreement with President Clevuland on the money question. He issued a manifesto arraigning Cleveland administration, ami since then has beon a bitter opponent of tho presi dent. As an orator Bryan has few aup- perlors in tho United States, and having travoled extensively over tho country, is pretty genorally known, cither personally or by reputation, to tho people. A Oanmdate for president on a freo ailver platform, Hryan is a thor oughly logical candidate, he having beon ono of tho ablest advocates of tho white metal in tho country. Whatever differences of opinion that have arisen in tho party on tho money question and other is sues of importance, there can bo none as to the ability and integrity of tho candidate. Whatever ques tions that will ariso between now and election day in regard to the issues on which tho campaign shall bo conducted, thorn can bo nono a to the fitness of the nominee In be come the standard bearer of democ racy on a freo silver platfoun. With his eloquenco and his youth Byran represents tho vigorou new lifo of tin Weet. More than this his nomination, is the r. knowledgoment of tho fact that the scat of ower iu tho demo crat party has removed from the Atlantic coast and ha? come west of the MicbUaippi river; too that tli energy and impulsiveness of the West will outweigh tho conserva tism of the Kast in tho councils of tho party. Uryun is young, vig orous and impetuous1, representing true Western blood, while his run ning mute, Arthur Sovrell, cAmos from "way down East," is conser vative and staid, thaugh not u relic of antiquity, al.d together thev miike a happy combination of brjins and energy, fitting repre sentatives of derniicrauy as outlined by the Cliicago convention. Tho KaHtern goldbug democrats tulk of nominating another ticket. It is likely that the headquarters of the democratic national com mittee will be changed . from New York to Chicago at an early day. Win. J. Bryan and Arthur Sewcll, tho democratic nominees will ho officially notified of their nomination in Madison Square Garden, Now York City, in about three weeks. Did you ever won der what that heavy weight on one side of a locomotive wheel was there for? Anyone who undcr Btands mechanics knows the need of u counter-balance to equalize power and keep the machinery going witli a steady even motion. With out it the machinery would wrench itself out of shape. It is the same way with the machinery of the human-bodv : it needs to go on steadily and regularly to be in gjod health not by fits and starts. The sudden wrenching medicines which peo ple sometimes take to overcome consti pation, give a violent strain to the intes tines which weakens them, so that the costiveness is afterwards worse than be fore. What costive people need Is a natural laxative like Dr. Pierce's Pleasant I'elleta which are powerful without being vio lent. They move the bowels entuua.lv and comfortably but surely. You can rt-guiate tne aose one, two or three 11 1'ellets" exactly as you need. They strengthen the intestines to do their own work, so that after their movements have become regular they keep on naturally of themselves. The " Tleasant Fellets" gently stimu late and invigorate the liver to throw off biliousness ; and tone up the stomach to secrete the digestive juices, and over come dyscpiia. The entire digestive, or alimentary, tract is put in motion in the regular Bteady way of nature nnd health. This is what makes the " Pleas nut Pellets" so immensely superior to the numerous purging pills which wrench and weaken the system. Druggists may get more profit out of those other pills but you don't. The " Plensaut Pellets" are tiny sugar coated granules .jo or more iu a little one-mcii vial lightly corked, hence, al ways fresh and reliable.
