Salem Journal: The old-timer says the circus today Is a very good show, but nothing like what they used to see in Oregon 20 or SO years ago, "In them days a clrous was the biggest thing on earth. We couldn't hold a stale fair at Salem and get a crowd without a circus. Money was plenty, and there were not so many ways to spend it. We hud no state militia, but all wore safe and happy. People packed up and camped right along with tho circus a week at a time, and 'tended the show twice a day, besides taking in tho side shows and lemonade stands, between times. Talk about spending money to get Eastern immigration and bring people to Salem I What .we want to make Salem a live town, is to hire a circus to stay here all the time."
