Schools Heady for Higher
Fields of Knowledge.
Th" graduating exercises of the Eu
gnio public schools were held ill Par
ker's opera house last evening. They
were attended by a large number of
friends and patrons of the schools.
Before eight o'clock, the time for
opening the exea-ises, had arrived
every seat and all standing room Ii.
the house was taken and many were
compelled to turn away.
The national colors were profusely
displayed in the building. The. room
was trimmed with bunting, while
hundreds of small llas decoiated nil
parts of it. The large public school
Hag served as a background In the rear
of the stage. Perhaps a larger anil
more complete colleetion of flowers
than the one las' night was never seen
at a I'Ublin school exhibition in this

number were seated upon the stage.
Each one wore the class colors and
pretty bouquets of (lowers. Owing to
the large size of tho class only eleven
of its uieuibers were permitted to liavo
essays, but nearly every uicmU-r ap
peared upon the program at somo time
during thu evening. F. Wayne Os

well. Miss Eleanors Watkins deliver
ed the valedictory iu a touching man
ner. The llower drill, the searf and
tiie music were all highly appreciated
by the audience. The essays were all

Kullerton passed sentence on the two
holsis, John Foster and John Martin,
convicti'd of the crime of sodomy, giv
ing each two years in (lie state peni
tentiary. The prisoners will probably
bej taken to Salem by Sherlll Joint
sou Monday. He will tic accompanied
by S It Williams as guard.
Considering the crime and the ver
dict tendered by the Jury the sentence
li a light one, and many have ex
pressed themselves ns of the opinion
that tho prisoners should have been
given the full boned! of I he law. The
jury was out only n short time and
promptly returned a verdict of guilty
as charged without any recommenda
tion of mercy. The highest penally
that could have been given Is five
years In tho penitentiary.
