The Guako tenders congratulations. Circuit court is in session in this city. It promises to be a short terra, for which the taxpayers will rejoice. The Australian ballot system after all is simple enough so far as the voting goes and anybody ought to be ablo to vote an Australian ballot intelligently, and yet through the the country there were several men such back numbers they didn't known know how to do it and they got things all mixed up. The number though was comparatively small. Tho republican national conven tion will meet in St. Louis ono week from tomorrow. Tho senti ment is gaining ground that the convention will 'straddle" on the financial question. We trust that it will come out squarely for or against silver. Tho peoplo want a fair discussion, and a settlement of this important quettion in November. They pay out $500,000 this year to supply this golden! wisdom to newspapers. Surely I these plates of costly illustrations and statistics in favor of "sound money" are not from adisintcrested source? The term "sound money ' means iho gold standard ns the only measure of values. But they dare not say gold standard, so they say "sound money." Why not? Because itcan beshownjto bo an un sound, unjust standard, a standard that can be covored, manipulated, that is subject to all the fluctua tions of the European gold markets.
