after a three weeks stay In Eugene,
much improved in health.

nah C Ma'.lock died her today. She
was ono of Oregon's early pioneers.
She was born In North Carolina, I)e
cemlier 3, 1815, meving to Western
Tennersee when a child. When 20
yonrs of age, she was married to K I
Matlock and moved to Missouri, whore
they lived 14 years. Eight children
were born to them, tlx of whom art
living. In the spring of IH53 ihay
came to Oregon, crossing tho plains
with ox teams. They settled five
miles south of where now stands the
town of Eugene, taking up a donation
land claim. Ten years later her hus
band died. She continued to live on
the farm until the spring of 1872, when
she came to Eastern Oregon with her
son, T J Matlock. Her sons are all
well and favorably known, one living
at Eugene, one lu Portland, two in
Heppuer and two In Pendleton. She
has been a member of the Cumberland
Presbyterian church fir tho past 47
years. Her remains will be laid to
rest tomorrow afternoon.

ladles, 82 are applicants for county
certificates, 1 for state diploma, 1 for
stats certificate, and 2 for state life

spring examination.
